Commemorating International Women’s Day in Kasunko Kakaylain Chiefdom, Fadugu Town.

‎On the 8th of March, the Koinadugu District Women’s Network (KDWN) in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs (MoGCA) and other partners commemorated International Women’s Day in Kasunko Kakaylain Chiefdom, Fadugu Town.

‎The event brought together members of the Care Women Committee (CWC) a chiefdom structure established by KDWN local authorities, adolescent girls, youths, out of school girls and other community members. The gathering created an important platform for dialogue, reflection, and collective commitment toward advancing the rights and leadership of women and girls in the district.
‎During the commemoration, participants reflected on the progress made in promoting women’s empowerment while also openly discussing the challenges that continue to hinder women’s full participation in leadership and community development. The engagement allowed community members and stakeholders to share experiences and highlight the need for sustained collaboration.

‎Representing the Paramount Chief, a chiefdom authority reiterated the importance of women’s leadership and the critical role women play in community development. He encouraged women to strengthen their skills in dialogue and negotiation as effective tools for leadership and participation, rather than engaging in conflicts over positions. He also assured participants that traditional authorities will continue to amplify women’s voices and support efforts aimed at addressing the challenges they face.

‎In her remarks, Haja Bintu Mansaray, Chairperson of the Board of KDWN, emphasized the importance of collective action in advancing women’s rights and opportunities. She noted that International Women’s Day is not only a day of celebration but also a moment for reflection and renewed commitment. She encouraged women and girls to believe in their potential, build confidence, and actively participate in decision-making processes within their communities. Haja Bintu Mansaray further commended the efforts of the Care Women Committee for their dedication to supporting women at the grassroots level and urged community authorities to continue creating safe and supportive spaces for women to lead and thrive.

‎Overall, the event was successful as it provided an opportunity to acknowledge achievements, identify existing gaps, and secure commitments from authorities to work toward addressing the challenges affecting women and girls in the chiefdom.
